Abstract

The oneiric substance is an important component of the narrative and epiphanic substance that characterises the Vita Nova. Placed at strategic points in the story, all converging towards (or from) the kérigma of Beatrice’s death or rather assumption into heaven, these episodes are configured as premonitions and as openings of the narrative horizon. This contribution analyses the two, perhaps three visiones in somniis found in paragraphs III, XII e XLII respectively. In the common oneiric dimension and in the foreshadowing of something to come, all three maintain an enigmatic character.
