Abstract

Reading Sandro Carocci’s book, Signorie di Mezzogiorno (2014), constrains us to rethink the question of the seigneurie as a category allowing the analysis and the description of the feudal society. It conducts us to precise the indispensability of the notion to think the medieval social relationships as regarding power as well as economic domination. This paper aims to present a reflection about the transformation of the concept through recent historiography, with particular concerns to Sandro Carocci’s book.
