Abstract

The theme of the so-called ‘economic regions’ and their (possible) development during the High and Late Middle Ages has been as debated by Italian scholars as it is now thoroughly neglected. Furthermore, the historiographical debate has been saturated by a narrative that emphasizes big commercial hubs and international trade. With this paper I will try to nuance such sketch by highlighting interregional trade, specialization, and integration dynamics. I will use some registers of the customs of Conegliano (province of Treviso), that will be analysed from a qualitative and quantitative standpoint with the methodologies of the digital humanities and GIS history.
