Abstract

The essay investigates the literary re-elaboration of reality starting from the poetic representations of the Northern Irish conflict in the work of Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney. With a particular focus on the collection North (1975), the one more emblematically addressing the historical and social contingency linked to the territorial specificity of Ulster, the analysis will show how facts and events can reach their purest, most essential form in the moment they are exposed as deprived of the redundancy of their own realia.
