Author Biography

Alessandro Serpieri, University of Florence

Alessandro Serpieri (1935-2017) was a full professor at University of Florence. He was president of the Associazione Italiana di Studi Semiotici (Italian Association of Semiotic Studies) from 1979 to 1983, and the Associazione Italiana di Anglistica (Italian Association of English Studies) from 1991 to 1993. He has mainly dealt with English dramaturgy and poetry (among others, William Shakespeare, T.S. Eliot, Joseph Conrad). In addition to numerous translations, he published Retorica e immaginario (1986), Mettere in scena Shakespeare (1987), On the Language of Drama (1989), Polifonia shakespeariana (2002), English Renaissance Scenes: From Canon to Margins (2008, with Paola Pugliatti). He was also the author of the novels Mostri agli alisei (1977) and Mare scritto (2007).
