Abstract

An analysis of the comic theories from Aristotle to Freud, as a basis for a reflection upon the plurality of models that preside over laugh in literature.

Author Biography

Francesco Fiorentino, University of Bari “Aldo Moro”

Francesco Fiorentino studied in Naples with Francesco Orlando. After teaching in Venice, he has been full professor of French Literature at University of Bari since 1987. In addition to several essays on the nineteenth-century novel, he has published a monograph (Einaudi) on the ridicule in Molière’s theatre, the volume Il teatro francese del Seicento (Laterza) and the Italian edition of Molière’s theatrical works for Bompiani. He is director of the online review Revue Italienne d’Études Françaises.
