Sound Topographies. Space and composition of Memory in the Works of Roberto Paci Dalò
Abstract
This essay analyses the role of space as memory atlas in the works and live performances of the Italian artist and composer Roberto Paci Dalò (1962). Particular attention is given to the (diachronical) cooperation between Paci Dalò and the GDR dramatist Heiner Müller (1929-1995), as both of them focus their work on working through collective trauma of the 20th Century through soundscapes and textual landscapes. The first paragraph observes the role of (both emotional and physical) geography in the works of Paci Dalò. The following part involves historical memory and post-memory, which are the main topics of Dalò’s works. At last, the essay analyses the live-sets and performances which directly involve both Heiner Müller and Paci Dalò: Greuelmärchen, Roter Schnee e Funkhaus Heiner Müller.
