Abstract

This essay provides a close reading of Vittorio Sereni’s autobiographical prose Ventisei, delimiting two thematic blocks: the nature of the places of trauma and the re-emergence of different psychic ghosts. As for the places, five temporal and symbolic-cultural stratifications are isolated and analyzed. Subsequently, three types of ghostly apparitions are distinguished. The analysis aims to show the delicate balance between the different forces released from the trauma that structures this prose. In conclusion, article proposes a reflection on the category of “unrealized future”, which opens up to the crafting of the future in Sereni’s last works.
