Sinuessa e il mito di Sinope: verso la costruzione del Parco del Massico in Campania Felix
Abstract
Sinuessa and the myth of Sinope: towards the construction of the Park of Massico in Campania Felix
The Massico promontory in Campania Felix represents a natural and cultural monument between the Tyrrhenian coast and the hinterland of Campania. Its historical and naturalistic importance is demonstrated by the remains of the Sinuessa Roman colony on the sea and by the important historical heritage spread across the hill. At a landscape level, the geographical skyline directly related to the acropolis of Cuma acquires semantic value in a very wide territorial radius, evoking the Greek myth of the Sinope colony. The research aims to enhance and protect this territorial emergency by promoting the establishment of a Massico natural park, connected to the Roccamonfina-Foce Garigliano Regional Park, making use of European directives and national legislation on sustainable development and landscape conservation. The punctual methodological approach verified in the design experiments identifies the creation of new urban ‘gates’ for access to the trails as the main tool for giving the Massico promontory the status of ‘park’. A ‘geographical centrality’ to be integrated into the network of protected areas to safeguard its precious historical and environmental heritage, but above all to rediscover systems of relationships and myths in contemporary landscapes.
