Calvino, "Il modello dei modelli" (<i>Mr. Palomar</i>)
Abstract
This contribution offers a close reading of The Model of Models, sixth prose of the third part of Mr. Palomar by Italo Calvino. The study starts from the dynamics of verb tenses, and then examines the two main lexical constellations of the theme, revolving around the form / formless polarity. The textual and rhetorical features of this polarity are then examined, with particular regard to signs of uncertainty and probability, which, on a stylistic level, demonstrate the relativistic and tendentially sceptical attitude of the late Calvino.
