L'anno centrale dell'era “dalla creazione del mondo”: note sulle origini della stampa ebraica

Gli studiosi che si occupano della storia del libro e della stampa ebraica, sono giunti alla conclusione che essa inizi con una serie di edizioni non datate, stampate fra il 1469 e il 1473. Nondimeno, il fatto che i primi incunaboli ebraici datati risalgano al 1475 e l'apparizione, nello stesso anno, delle prime lettere ebraiche in edizioni latine, sembra indicare nel 1475 un punto di svolta nella storia della tipografia ebraica. In questo articolo è presentata la descrizione bibliografica di tutte queste edizioni, presentandone i colofoni, dandone la rispettiva traduzione e discutendo il significato di questi volumi nel contesto più generale dello sviluppo della stampa in Europa.

That Pivotal Year of the Era “From the Creation of the World”: A Few Notes on the Origins of Hebrew Printing

Nowadays, the researchers studying Hebrew printing have reached the conclusion that its history begins with the undated editions that were printed from 1469 to 1473. Nevertheless, the fact that in 1475 not only were the first dated Hebrew incunabula printed, but also, that same year, Hebrew letters were used in a Latin edition for the first time, constitutes, in my opinion, a turning point in the history of Hebrew printing. This article presents a bibliographical description of these editions by introducing the texts of the colophons along with their translation and discussing the significance of these editions in the context of the European printing development.
