Landscape and the production of innovative energies between conservation and development. A study for Southern Sicily

Abstract

This article illustrates several aspects of a study carried on for over a year by me at the Department of City and Territory. This study investigates the theme of the agricultural park as a new instrument for the territorial planning of open spaces and of the role that an agricultural territory might have in view of an indentying and self-sustaining development of places and local communities. Within this broad scheme, Agrigento has been selected as a case study analyzing particularly the problems connected with the change of the configuration of the landscape in relation to the new forms of use of environmental resources (Barbera, Di Rosa, 2000; Rossi Doria, 2004). The observations which follow center in on the necessity, in relation to the growing develpment of wind parks, of harmonizing the production of alternate forms of energy with the safeguarding of the environment.
