Abstract

Foreigners – Italian. Immigrants in the historic center of Naples

This article present the results of the research in the historic centre of Naples: its main objective has been to analyse the relation between migrants and territory and their mutual connections in the integration process. The main questions have been several. Wherein does “the new space” become a space of reception and integration? Which are the main variables that support or prevent this process? Can moving in the territory be the key factor or an exclusion strategy? What are the implications in the residential and working mobility, in the proximity with neighbourhood and local in general? All of these in a context such as the historic centre of Naples, full of material and immaterial identities and recently involved by social and business innovations. Answering these questions, the research aimed to examine how migrants feel in or out of place in the city, through their experiences.
