The role of reading in digital media culture
Abstract
This article provides a critical overview of digital reading practices, exploring their role in the current cultural context. In particular, it aims to delve into the ways in which reading, once exclusively tied to printed text, is evolving into a more complex activity that includes new formats such as digital literature, audiobooks, and other multimedia forms. Reading is no longer just an individual experience but is primarily seen as a social and cultural phenomenon, closely linked to changes in the media ecosystem. In this context, reading is part of a broader cultural shift that involves different genres and media, reshaping the very concept of “reading” in the digital age.
